Aerosol Workshop 2006

July 5-7th

Dear Colleagues

The International Laboratory for Air Quality and Health (ILAQH) would like to invite you to participate in the 2nd Aerosol Workshop in Brisbane, Queensland .

Dates : 5-7 July 2006

Venue : International Laboratory for Air Quality and Health (ILAQH)

School of Physical and Chemical Sciences

Queensland University of Technology

Brisbane, Australia

This workshop will be a follow-up on last years workshop organized at UNSW. The aim of this workshop is to bring together the rather diverse community of Australian scientists working on various aspects of aerosol science and impacts.

•  Formation, both laboratory studies and modelling

•  Measurement and characterization, including indoor

•  Air quality monitoring and regulation

•  Radiative impacts and climate change

•  Pharmaceutical aerosols

•  Others

Program

Similar to last year it is planned that the first two days are devoted to presentations from individuals and various research groups. The presenters should present some of the research/capabilities/activities of the group they are coming from and some highlight of their recent research. This would give us an update of some new developments since the last year's workshop.

In the final day we would split up into topical groups to look at what are the key
questions in that area - along the line of Merv Lynch's email back in November. Hopefully these questions would lead to new grant applications and provide the opportunity to start building teams for joint applications. The sessions during the presentations could also be divided into similar topical groups so participants could be aware of what others are doing within their field of interest.

Some of the tentative group/topics for the final day:

•  Radiative impacts and climate change

•  Air quality monitoring, regulations and health effects

•  Particle formation

•  Dust

Call for Participants

We are now calling for presentations for the workshop. These can be from individuals or groups. We are aiming at having presentation of 20-25 minutes duration. The focus should be on giving a short overview (5-10 minutes) of the work being done within your group and the areas of interest and the group capabilities. The rest of the presentation should be on some of your recent scientific findings.

Presentations by industry or government groups are also welcome.

There may be some people who are unable to attend but would like to make available some information about what they are doing, and what collaborations they would be interested in. You are encouraged to do this.

If you have an interesting poster from a conference that you attended in the last year or you will attend this year, please let me know so I could organize some space for poster presentations.

Expressions of Interest by 20th May, 2006.

What we need now:

Presentation title, presenter, organisation, and contact details.

A brief statement outlining the broad area/areas covered by your group, e.g. air pollution, remote sensing etc. This will help us in organising the schedule of presentations.

Would you be interested in attending the final day, and if yes in which group or would you suggest some other topical group.

If you are interested in attending, but are not sure if you will be able to, please let us know.

Registration is free, but we do need to know the number of attendees and category:

* Presenter

* Not Presenting

* Can't attend but would like to send a summary of interests and contact details
